Biological Male Wins Beauty Pageant, One Step Closer to Miss USA

Yep, you read that right! A biological male recently won an American beauty pageant, and not any small-time pageant either.

Kataluna Enriquez was crowned the Miss Silver State USA winner this week bringing her one step closer to competing in Miss USA, and ultimately, Miss Universe.

According to KVVU-TV, Enriquez will now move onto the statewide competition, Miss Nevada USA, before proceeding to Miss USA, if crowned in her home state. The news outlet called Enriquez’s win a “monumental” one.

This isn’t the first time a biological male is making headlines for competing in beauty pageants. In 2018, Angela Ponce was crowned that year’s Miss Universe Spain pageant winner and was the favorite at one point to be crowned Miss Universe.

In an interview with the outlet, Enriquez called the experience “a celebration of womanhood and diversity and this celebration of being your true self.”

Enriquez said that she was not always liked among the pageant circuit. She mentioned a prior pageant, without mentioning any names of the specific event, in which organizers found out she was transgender and required her to provide medical documents to prove she was female. Organizers also refused to provide her with a roommate.

"I was asked to provide documents that were invasive in my opinion physically asking me to get a letter from my doctor," Enriquez said. "It brought me back to a time where I felt like I was not welcome."

She told KVVU-TV that her plan is to make “awareness of the transgender community” her pageant platform. Her decision to do so could very well benefit the new Miss Silver State USA winner in upcoming pageants as the transgender movement picks up steam among progressive liberal circles.

Pageant organizations have begun to be bombarded with entry requests from more biological males over the past few years and have also been dealt backlash when denying transgender participants from competing in the pageants. Honestly, I’m sure they would get even more backlash and would be labeled as transphobes for not letting Kataluna Enriquez win the next few pageants.

The Miss Nevada pageant is scheduled for June.
