VIDEO: China Detains Christians, Brainwashing and Faith Renouncing Ensues
According to Radio Free Asia, officials in China are detaining Christians in windowless “transformation” facilities and are utilizing “brainwashing” methods to renounce their faith in Christ.
A member of a Christian house church spoke with Radio Free Asia, asking to be referred to by the pseudonym “Li Yuse,” and said he was held by state officials for nearly 10 months in an establishment managed by the Chinese Communist Party’s United Front Work Department. A 2018 raid on his church is what led to his capture.
Li said that the facility was “mobile” and “could just be set up in some basement somewhere.” He noted that “it was staffed by people from several different government departments.”
Li added that “they mainly target Christians who are members of house churches.”
Sadly, the arrest and imprisonment of those who practice a religion is a common occurrence under the watchful eye of the Chinese Communist Party. Li said the inmates he was imprisoned with were released on bail during their criminal detention for partaking in church-related activities.
Radio Free Asia reported that since most who practice a religion didn’t do anything that would constitute criminal prosecution, police send them to “transformation” facilities instead.
The outlet said:
The Chinese Communist Party, which embraces atheism, exercises tight controls over any form of religious practice among its citizens. State security police and religious affairs bureau officials frequently raid unofficial "house churches" that aren't members of the CCP-backed Three-Self Patriotic Association, although member churches have also been targeted at times. The CCP under Xi Jinping regards Christianity as a dangerous foreign import, with party documents warning against the "infiltration of Western hostile forces" in the form of religion.
Li told the outlet that during his time at the “transformation” facility, "They were using brainwashing methods on those of us who were on bail from the detention center. You have to accept the statement they prepare for you" and "if you refuse, you will be seen as having a bad attitude and they will keep you in detention and keep on beating you."
He said, “there is no time limit for the brainwashing process.” “You can’t see the sun” and the “concept of time” is lost.
Li also told RFA "I couldn't sleep; after you've been in there a week, death starts to look better than staying there.” He added, "I bashed myself against the wall to self-harm."
Even state-run churches can’t seem to escape the tight clench of China’s Communist Party. It was reported last year that those churches were not allowed to open unless they praised the country’s President Xi Jinping’s handling of the coronavirus.
As stated before, the communist country’s grip on religion is a tight one and persecution runs rampant. The Associated Press reported last summer that the Chinese government was cracking down on the Uyghurs and other minority groups by engaging in campaigns to cut birthrates through abortions, sterilizations and IUDs. Women placed inside China’s concentration camps have reported that they are regularly beaten, and gang raped.
At a February town hall event, President Joe Biden spoke of Xi Jinping saying, "the idea that I'm not going to speak out against what he's doing in Hong Kong, what he's doing with the Uyghurs in [the] western mountains of China...he gets it…culturally there are different norms that each country and their leaders are expected to follow."
Biden also added that, "If you know anything about Chinese history, it has always been, the time when China has been victimized by the outer world is when they haven't been unified at home. So, the central — well, vastly overstated — the central principle of Xi Jinping is that there must be a united, tightly controlled China. And he uses his rationale for the things he does based on that."
Let’s pray for those in China and other communist countries who are being persecuted, raped, beaten, tortured, and pushed to the point of contemplating ending their own lives. As I explained in my book Is God A Republican? and as Paul Kengor exquisitely elaborated in his book The Devil and Karl Marx, God cannot exist in a society that practices communism. The state is God. A higher being and the state cannot co-exist and, therefore, atheism is the fundamental core to a communist society. And by all means will the party’s officials do anything they can, even with violence, to quash whatever comes first in others’ lives if the party is not first.
