CNN Looking to Have Newsmax Shut Down

Back before the presidential election took place, Fox News was doing extremely well in its ratings against left-wing competitors CNN and MSNBC. After the election, Fox News has plummeted and has averaged fewer viewers than those competitors on a daily basis. This is a first for Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Corporation in two decades. It’s stance in contrast with Trump has surely shown the variance.

While CNN celebrates its win over Fox News, it sets its sights on a new set of conservative alternatives to news that threated its newly obtained title, OANN and Newsmax. This should go to show you with which side a majority of the country sides.

Newsmax has really skyrocketed in viewership as it is now the 4th highest-rated cable news channel in the country. The increase has led CNN’s leftwing critic Oliver Darcy to demand cable providers to drop Newsmax. Darcy falsely claimed in a column he wrote that the conservative media caused the Capitol siege on January 6th.

Darcy wrote, "After all, it was the very lies that Fox, Newsmax, and OAN spread that helped prime President Trump's supporters into not believing the truth: That he lost an honest and fair election."

CNN has been known to lead the effort in deplatforming President Donald Trump. Alex Stamos, a former Facebook chief security officer told CNN’s Brian Stelter, "We are going to have to figure out the OANN and Newsmax problem. These companies have freedom of speech, but I'm not sure we need Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, and such bringing them into tens of millions of homes."

Stamos can also be quoted as saying “We have to turn down the capability of these conservative influencers to reach these huge audiences. There are people on YouTube that have larger daytime audiences than CNN."

Here comes the McCarthy-like response from Darcy as he says via Twitter: "Just a reminder that neither @Verizon, @ATT, nor @comcast have answered any questions about why they beam channels like OAN & Newsmax into millions of homes. Do they have any second thoughts about distributing these channels given their election denialism content? They won't say."

Sorry for failing to note that AT&T is the parent company of CNN. Oh, wait, no I’m not. Newsmax is still creeping up on the competitor.

According to Newsmax, it also noted that “while it justifiably covered the president's allegations about the election and interviewed his lawyers and supporters – as did Fox News and Fox Business News, it never said all allegations were true. The network did note, after years of CNN falsely claiming the Steele Dossier was valid and the Russian collusion claim against Trump was credible, it was never held accountable for its misreporting. Newsmax never called for CNN to be shut down.”
