Dan Bongino Radio Show to Fill Rush Limbaugh’s Time Slot, Others Follow

The Associated Press reported that popular conservative commentator Dan Bongino will be launching a radio show that will occur during the same daily time slot as The Rush Limbaugh Show of noon to 3 p.m. ET, on a different network, beginning May 24.

Since the announcement of Rush’s passing by his wife, Kathryn Limbaugh, during the Feb. 17 airing of The Rush Limbaugh Show, multiple well-known co-hosts have been filling in, offering commentary and playing clips of Rush on relevant topics from past shows. The co-hosts, such as Mark Steyn, Todd Herman and Ken Matthews, are no strangers to Rush’s show. They were filling in for nearly a year every so often for the “greatest radio host of all time” while he was receiving chemotherapy for stage 4 lung cancer.

The Rush Limbaugh Show is syndicated through 600 markets through Premier Networks and boasted an unparalleled 43 million listeners, according to the EIB network’s audience model.

Fox News reported that Dan Bongino’s show will be broadcast to similar markets around the country through Cumulus Media’s Westwood One, a competitor of Premier Networks.

Publisher of Talkers magazine, Michael Harrison, told the AP that the announcement of Bongino’s show has launched a frenzy for similar ones in that same time slot with the likes of Dana Loesch and Erick Erickson.

"There is no clear-cut favorite at this time," Harrison told the AP. "It is generally accepted that no one can replace Rush Limbaugh, even Rush Limbaugh as a posthumous performer."

According to Fox News, “The Dan Bongino Show will tackle the hot political issues, debunking both liberal and Republican establishment rhetoric. As a former Secret Service agent and NYPD officer, Bongino is uniquely positioned to provide commentary and analysis that directly questions the philosophical underpinnings of both the Left and Big Government Republicans."

The outlet also said that Bongino is "excited to embrace the immense power of radio to connect with my listeners live for three hours every day. This is an incredible privilege, and I pledge to honor the trailblazing work of those who came before me."

Westwood One President Suzanne Grimes said in a statement that "Dan is passionate and relatable, with a natural ability to connect with his audience, Dan has been on a meteoric rise since his podcast launched in 2019, and we look forward to watching his star continue to soar."

It’s doubtful that anyone can come close to the success that conservative talk show trailblazer Rush Limbaugh garnered over his career, but it will be interesting to see who comes close. At the end of the day, the importance lies in spreading the word of conservativism in the most effective manner and converting as many people as possible to the right side of the political spectrum and philosophical thinking just as Rush often did.
