Rep. Waters Faces Calls for Punishment After Calling for Protests – Not the First Time

Democratic Representative from California Maxine Waters finds herself in hot water yet again for using rhetoric perceived as being incendiary but is only being met with calls for punishment with no real action being taken.

Speaking to protestors on Saturday night in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, Waters went on a blistering rant where she told protestors to “get more confrontational” if former police officer Derek Chauvin is found not guilty in the murder of George Floyd.

In speaking about the Chauvin trial, Waters said, "We're looking for a guilty verdict. And we're looking to see if all of the talk that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd."

"If nothing does not happen, then we know, that we've got to not only stay in the street, but we've got to fight for justice," Waters continued. "But I am very hopeful, that I hope that we're going to get a verdict that will say, 'Guilty, guilty, guilty!' And if we don't, we cannot go away."

In response to her threats, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) vowed to bring action against his colleague if Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) does not.

According to an article published by the New York Post editorial board, Waters was “trying to create a civil war” and that Pelosi should strip her of her committee assignments and “move for a vote to remove Waters from office.”

The board added, "By her own standards, Maxine Waters should be impeached and removed.”

Yes, she absolutely should be impeached and removed. Former President Donald Trump was impeached by the House although he called for peace and unity during his Jan. 6 rally. The House also did absolutely nothing when Maxine Waters told members of the “Resistance” during a 2018 speech to “create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”

I’m not sure if it’d be perceived as racist to impeach a black politician like Waters and that’s why no one’s doing it, or if it’s because she’s a Democrat. Honestly, I think it’s a little of both. The longer we wait to actually take action against those elected to office, no matter their race, who are quite literally calling for disorder and violence, the more they will get away with it and it will become the norm.
