Seattle Mulls Dismissing Over 90% of Crimes - Idea Coming to a City Near You?

Do you live in Seattle?

Do you suffer from poverty? Homelessness? Addiction? Mental illness?

If you’ve answered “yes” to any one of the above and committed a certain crime, then you’re in luck! Your misdemeanor could be labeled a “crime of poverty” and would be dismissed in court!

The past few sentences sound like they came from the script of a terrible law firm commercial or the synopsis of a dystopian thriller. Sadly, they’re from the mouths of the Seattle City Council.

The bright idea that was floated back in October by the council would dismiss crimes committed by those stricken by poverty, homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, or mental illness. They label these “crimes of poverty.”

City Journal reports that, according to the city’s former public-safety advisor, more than 90 percent of all misdemeanor cases throughout Seattle would be covered by the legislation.

According to the same report, the council’s reasoning for the absurd legislation is that “society has condemned the lower class to a life of poverty and stigma, which leads to addiction, madness, and indigence. The poor, in the logic of Seattle’s progressive elites, are thus forced to commit crimes—including violent crimes—to secure their very existence.” The article continues “Therefore, as society is the perpetrator of this inequality, the crimes of the poor must be forgiven. The crimes are transformed into an expression of social justice.”

What kind of crimes fall into Seattle’s definition of a misdemeanor you might ask?

The legislation would legalize crimes such as indecent exposure, assault, harassment, theft, drug possession, and the destruction of property.

How about numbers?

According to Seattle’s Crime Dashboard, last year there were 25,993 thefts, 8,442 assaults, 6,430 property offenses, 4,194 frauds, 3,910 trespasses, and 1,640 drug crimes. These equate to 72 percent of all the city’s crimes committed in 2019 – almost all would be dismissed.

The year 2020 has brought about some of the most boneheaded ideas coming from Democrat-led cities and states – and this one ranks up near the top for sure. The Seattle City Council is one that sits under Mayor Jenny Durkan, the same bozo that did nothing for nearly a month to put a stop to the operation of the CHAZ/CHOP zone where multiple assaults on occupants and racketeering of local businesses took place. Remember, she called it the “summer of love?

These dangerous ideas stemming from the left in order to punish law-abiding citizens is all disguised in buzz words and phrases like “race” and “social justice,” but the legislations have nothing to do with any of them.

Take “defund police” as an example. A dumb idea like that will just hurt the inner cities even more, contrary to what liberals will have you believe.

I really cannot see how anyone in their right mind, rich or poor, would even consider voting for progressives proudly flaunting an agenda that includes defunding police departments or decriminalizing a multitude of crimes. Even if they’re silent on these topics it seems like in order to be a part of the party, you’ll have to embrace the radical ideas. Just look at Joe Biden – he was silent on many radical issues going into the Democratic Presidential debates including the Green New Deal and defunding police, until AOC and other outspoken progressives forced his hand to side with them.

It seems like in order to get the votes liberals will need to continue their radical, progressive socialist agendas, their only option will be to continue rigging elections in any way possible. Just watch radical ideas like “crimes of poverty” expand outside of cities like Seattle and come to a city near you, just as the “defund police” movement did.

I can tell you one thing’s for sure; Conservatives won’t stand for it.
