Twitter CEO Caught Saying in Leaked Video Company Ban will be ‘Much Bigger’ than Trump
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey informed his staff that the company’s recent crackdown after the events at the Capitol last week are going to be “much bigger” than banning just President Trump’s account.
Unbeknown to Dorsey, an internal whistleblower at Twitter recorded the video call and sent it to Project Veritas. The video quickly went viral after Project Veritas’s James O’Keefe tweeted it out Thursday evening. A Twitter spokesperson has since confirmed the authenticity of the video.
In the video, Dorsey can be heard saying “We are focused on one account right now, but this is going to be much bigger than just one account, and it’s going to go on for much longer than just this day, this week, and the next few weeks, and go on beyond the inauguration.”
He continued, “So, the focus is certainly on this account and how it ties to real-world violence. But also, we need to think much longer term around how these dynamics play out over time. I don’t believe this is going away anytime soon.”
The Twitter CEO went on to discuss his company’s purge of the nearly 70,000 QAnon-related accounts after the siege at the Capitol took place.
On Wednesday, Dorsey explained his company’s decision to ban Trump and why he agrees with it, although expressing fear in what could come with it. In his tweet, Dorsey said, “I believe this was the right decision for Twitter. We faced an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, forcing us to focus all of our actions on public safety. Offline harm as a result of online speech is demonstrably real, and what drives our policy and enforcement above all.”
