VIDEO: DC Students Sign Fake Petition to End Memorial Day
Just prior to Memorial Day weekend, Conservative news site Campus Reform took to the streets around Georgetown in Washington, D.C. to ask college students whether they wanted to sign a petition.
The petition wasn't what you'd expect.
It was explained by the undercover individual holding the clipboard as being one to cancel Memorial Day. Sadly, many students signed the petition.
Some on-camera explanations for signing the petition included:
Memorial Day “represents a lot of negative aspects of America and highlights something that people shouldn’t necessarily be proud of.”
Someone else said that they believed Memorial Day is “a celebration of US imperialism and colonialism.”
A female student said the national holiday “represents a lot of negative aspects of America and highlights something that people shouldn’t necessarily be proud of.”
She also mentioned that “If we’re going to honor and celebrate the dead, I think it should be those who lost their lives to genocide in America."
A male student interviewed in particular said that he acme anti-American after attending college.
He said, “I didn’t really think in this way until I went to college and I took women’s and gender studies classes and that put me on this path where I’m like, ‘yeah, f**k the US.'”
“For me, I was on this spirituality-type journey where we’re all one or whatever, and what I was learning in social justice was the material analysis I needed to practice what I feel like exists on a spiritual plane in real, everyday life.”
When asked if the US should abolish its military, he eagerly replied, "yes, please."
One student on camera declined to sign the petition, but not for a reason you'd think. She said she enjoyed getting the day off from work.
Whether it's through professors, activities or groups, there's no doubt anti-American rhetoric is being spread throughout US colleges.
